Morningside Heights
A walking tour of Morningside Heights in NYC is the best way to see its academic institutions, iconic churches, neighborhood parks, and lovely prewar residential buildings, plus the tomb of Civil War general and U.S. President Ulysses Grant.
More about this tour: Morningside Heights is so compact that we can walk from the SE to the NW corner of the neighborhood in 2 hours. We see why this neighborhood is known as NYC’s “Academic Acropolis” as we stop at Columbia University, Barnard College, Teachers College, Manhattan School of Music, and two theological seminaries. We also see two iconic New York churches: The Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Riverside Church. And we walk through both Morningside Park and Sakura Park. Our last stop, Grant’s Tomb, is the largest tomb by volume in the U.S.
